Job Description

Sr. HVAC Support Engineer

Wilson, NC (onsite)

Multi-year contract (W2 or 1099)

We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented HVAC Support Engineer to assist in the installation, documentation, and mechanical completion of pharmaceutical HVAC systems for a large scale, $40 MM project with dozens of AHUs.

This role supports senior mechanical leads and EPCM representatives by contributing to design reviews, field coordination, and commissioning readiness. The ideal candidate will have experience with HVAC systems in regulated environments and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in early design phases by supporting HVAC ductwork, hydronic piping, and equipment layout planning.
  • Support the installation of HVAC and utility systems, including AHUs, ductwork, exhaust systems, chillers, boilers, and related infrastructure.
  • Help implement the project’s sustainability goals.
  • Assist in coordinating piping and equipment design solutions across the site.
  • Support the review of piping specifications, installation details, and pipe rack designs.
  • Contribute to determining main ductwork and pipe routing and assist with clash detection using 3D models.
  • Help define system boundaries to facilitate commissioning.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews and assess piping progress with master planners.
  • Assist in reviewing space coordination and equipment routing plans during construction.
  • Support constructability reviews with the site construction team.
  • Help prepare SOWs for tendering of piping and mechanical packages.
  • Assist in developing AHU handover package documentation with the CQV team.
  • Review contractor submittals and provide input during the tendering process.
  • Support site construction and project controls teams with HVAC and equipment installation activities.
  • Track progress and assist in coordination to meet schedule, cost, and quality targets.
  • Participate in system walkdowns to verify compliance and readiness for mechanical completion.
  • Support execution of HVAC Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) strategies.
  • Coordinate with contractors and engineers to help resolve field issues.
  • Maintain organized documentation of installation and inspection activities.
  • Assist in preparing systems for commissioning and support startup activities.
  • Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience supporting mechanical construction of HVAC and utility systems in pharmaceutical or biotech facilities.
  • Experience in greenfield HVAC projects; ideally with multiple AHUs and high budget
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical HVAC systems, cleanroom requirements, and utility infrastructure.
  • Understanding of GMP regulations and industry standards for HVAC installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup of HVAC systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
