SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a reliable, experienced, Senior Construction Inspector to work full time for SJS to help support operations at a VA Medical facility in Fort Meade, SD

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

Pay for this position will be $81,000.  There will also be 80 hours of accumulated PTO, 11 paid federal holidays, medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance offered. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide value engineering assistance and best construction practices recommendations.
  • Maintain organized construction files.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-construction meetings.
  • Maintain marked up sets of project plans and specifications for future as-built drawings.
  • Perform routine inspections of construction as work proceeds, taking action to identify work to the CO/COR that does not conform to the contract requirements, and notifying the CO/COR when work is thought to require correction.
  • Compile, through site inspections, lists of defects and omissions related to the work performed and providing these lists to the CO/COR for determination of the need for correction.
  • Schedule, conducting, and documenting regular progress meetings with all interested parties to review project status, discuss problems, and resolve issues.
  • Participate in all “Partnering” activities during construction (workshops, meetings).
  • Perform site surveys using a registered surveyor (establish building lines, elevations, approaches, utility locations).
  • Provide assistance in obtaining permits.
  • Perform hazardous material assessments and monitoring of hazardous material abatement work.
  • Handle/prepare project correspondence to respond to the parties involved with each project, confirm verbal discussions/directives, document actions taken, and decisions made.
  • The Contractor staff shall not assume the responsibilities of the construction Contractor(s), particularly in areas of coordination of work to be performed by subcontractors.
  • Conduct site visits to on-going projects to inspect safety, adherence to construction documents, adherence to life safety and other codes, quality, and progress. 
  • Monitor construction Contractor compliance with established safety standards (note and report unsafe working conditions, failures to adhere to safety plan required by construction contract).
  • Perform construction quality control monitoring, testing, and inspection. 
  • Schedule, track, and facilitate inspections by hospital operations and maintenance staff, clinical staff, and subject matter experts as needed.
  • Complete daily logs as requested.
  • Identification of long-lead items to facilitate the earliest feasible date for task
  • completion.
  • Maintain compliance with prevailing wage and hour requirements.
  • Plan work carefully to avoid impacts to patient care.
  • As requested, assist in having as-built drawings are updated at the close of the construction project

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least ten (10) years specialized experience performing inspections on commercial construction sites. 
  • In-depth experience in interpreting construction drawings and specifications on construction projects. 
  • AutoCAD and Revit knowledge and experience. 
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
