Job Description

About Rebuild

When disasters strike communities, homeowners can be displaced from their homes for years. Restoration contractors specialize in mitigating the damage to homes and rebuilding them after disasters hit. These contractors are limited in the work that they can do by the amount of jobs that they can get approved by insurance carriers. Writing insurance-compliant estimates is extremely time-consuming and can take up to two days for these contractors to write.

Rebuild is an operating system for restoration contractors, starting with an estimating product. Our initial product enables contractors to generate insurance-compliant estimates in just a few minutes, allowing them to get to more jobs and repair more homes. This is just our first step towards improving the everyday efficiency of these contractors.

We’re backed by an all-star team of investors, including Gutter Capital and 25madison.

What you’ll do at Rebuild

At Rebuild, our small team of generalists thrives on versatility. When it comes to code, we're broadly seeking exceptional problem-solvers who can architect scalable systems using TypeScript. While expertise in our full tech stack isn't required, all successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Deep problem-solving abilities and systems optimization skills
  • Strong JavaScript fundamentals
  • Experience with React, and TypeScript
  • Excellent communication skills

Our ideal engineer doesn't just write code — they identify core challenges and craft elegant solutions that scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to touch all parts of the platform and develop features that bring immediate impact to our users. Specifically, you will:

  • Take full responsibility for significant features or product requirements, often dealing with considerable uncertainty, and breaking these down into actionable design and execution plans
  • Efficiently complete and deliver tasks and tickets with a high standard of quality and consistency
  • Rapidly gain a comprehensive understanding of our codebase and demonstrate expertise in specific areas, becoming a go-to resource for those domains
  • Provide guidance and support to other engineers on the team, collaborating to execute tasks effectively
  • Assist with building and deploying ML models at scale
  • Create best-in-class software development processes so that we can build a distinguished product

You’ll be a great fit at Rebuild if you are:

🚀 Someone with a strong bias to action: You believe in moving fast and breaking through analysis paralysis. You balance thoughtful decision-making with swift execution, knowing that momentum is crucial. You're comfortable shipping early and often, learning from real feedback rather than theoretical perfection.

🤝 A principled builder: You recognize that we're helping contractors rebuild people's homes and livelihoods. You take that responsibility seriously, approaching your work with integrity and accountability. You build trust through reliability and consistently delivering on your commitments.

💡 Open-minded yet conviction-driven: You come prepared with well-researched perspectives and aren't afraid to champion your ideas. However, you stay curious and humble, readily embracing better solutions when they emerge through collaboration.

📢 Direct and empathetic in communication: You emphasize clarity and efficiency in your communication while remaining aware of your audience. You can translate complex technical concepts for various stakeholders and know how to keep everyone aligned on priorities and progress.

🌱 Energized by early-stage challenges: You thrive in ambiguity and see opportunity where others see uncertainty. You're comfortable wearing multiple hats and adapting quickly as our company evolves. You balance short-term execution with long-term vision, understanding that today's decisions shape tomorrow's foundation.

🏗️ Excited about meaningful impact: You're drawn to work that matters and creates tangible value. You appreciate that our platform helps contractors operate more efficiently, ultimately getting families back in their homes faster. You're motivated by seeing your code translate into real-world positive outcomes.

What we offer:

  • Interesting and challenging work solving a mission critical problem
  • Medical, Health, and Dental Insurance
  • Flexible Vacation
  • A close-knit startup culture in our NYC office (3 days in-person)
  • Compensation range for this position is $170k-200 base annual cash salary plus equity compensation
  • Applicants must be willing to work a few days out of the NYC office
