Job Description

Director, Electrical Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of innovative electrical solutions for our consumer and commercial lighting products. Requires a deep technical understanding of electrical engineering, a passion for lighting technology, lighting firmware, battery systems and the ability to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads, mentors, and grows a team of electrical and lighting specialists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. Provide strategic direction, set performance goals, and ensure the team delivers on engineering objectives.
  • Oversees the electrical design, prototyping, testing, and production phases of consumer lighting products. Ensure electrical systems are optimized for performance, energy efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides advanced technical leadership in electrical engineering, solving complex problems related to circuit design, power management, and lighting control systems.
  • Works closely with the product management, industrial design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure that electrical designs meet consumer expectations and product requirements. Lead technical discussions and decision-making processes across departments.
  • Stays current with the latest trends in consumer lighting and electrical engineering, including LED technology, smart lighting systems, and sustainability initiatives. Drive innovation to keep the company’s products at the forefront of the industry.
  • Ensures all electrical engineering practices comply with industry standards and regulations (e.g., UL, CE, RoHS). Maintain high-quality control and testing procedures for all electrical components.
  • Manages project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure successful product launches. Make data-driven decisions to optimize engineering efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and partners to ensure that components and systems meet the required specifications and quality standards.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or applicable employment agreement. Follows safety guidelines and procedures in accordance to the job.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Advanced certifications or professional engineering licenses (e.g., PE) are a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably within the consumer lighting or related industries.
  • Proficiency in electrical circuit design, PCB layout, power systems, and energy-efficient lighting technologies. Experience with smart lighting systems, IoT, and embedded systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of engineers, driving innovation while maintaining a focus on meeting project deadlines and budgets.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges and optimize engineering designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a strong focus on time management, resource allocation, and meeting deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with consumer lighting
  • Familiarity with advanced lighting technologies (e.g., OLED, Smart LEDs, and Li-Fi).
  • Experience with global product compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with varied power management systems and sources(LifePO4, Ni Cad, and lithium-ion)
