Dental Hygienist

Position Summary

The Dental Hygienist provides preventive dental care and education as part of Project Saving Smiles , a City of Houston public health initiative. This role focuses on improving community health outcomes through outreach in schools and various locations. The position requires strong clinical skills, a Texas Dental Hygiene License, and a passion for patient education and community impact.

Essential Functions

• Deliver preventive dental services, including cleanings and sealant placement
• Provide outreach and oral health education to students and community groups
• Assist in project activities at schools and other assigned locations
• Maintain dental equipment and ensure proper sterilization procedures
• Record patient information accurately and maintain compliance with regulations
• Support team members in implementing public health initiatives

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Work is performed in clinical and school environments across Houston
• Regular activities include sitting, standing, speaking, and operating dental instruments
• May involve travel to multiple locations within the city
• Part-time schedule: approximately 30 hours per week when the project is active

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of dental hygiene principles, procedures, and preventive practices
• Ability to operate dental and electronic equipment efficiently
• Competence in patient care, education, and community engagement
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• General knowledge of recordkeeping and dental equipment maintenance

Special Requirements

• Valid Texas Dental Hygiene License and current annual registration certificate
• Minimum 1 year of recent clinical dental hygiene experience (within the last 3 years)
• Must be qualified to place dental sealants
• Ability to travel between schools and project locations as assigned

Pay Rate: $41.00 per hour

Location: Houston, TX 

Schedule: Part-time, 30 hrs/week when project is active
